Good Morning, Tel Aviv

tel_aviv_morning.jpg

Looking towards the sea.

Well, I’ve got my complimentary copy of The Jerusalem Post and I’m about to head downstairs for breakfast. Got in at about 3AM this morning from Amsterdam, where I spent Saturday afternoon wandering around and looking at stuff (during my eight-hour lay-over). While taking my shower I heard news reports on CNN of some crowd of people in Lebanon, I believe, chanting “Death to Israel” yesterday. So it goes.

And — holy crap — Katzen, catgirl from this post, is on the TV right now. Wow. They’re showing her with thick make-up hiding her tattoo tiger-stripes. Grew up a Navy brat. Lived in thirty different states and Japan. Always loved cats. The show is a Hebrew-subtitled “Ripley’s Believe it or Not.” Neat-o. The only woman in history to have a full-body tattoo, they say. And she has never had to pay for any of the tattoo-work. Now they’re showing Human Marvel’s footage. Nifty.

You’re probably more curious about Israel. Well, as you can see from the photos, my hotel room looks out over the Mediterranean Sea. And I also look across to downtown Tel Aviv. Nice.

Right now I’m going to go wander around on the beach before heading to work. It’s about 60 degrees outside and cloudy.

I’ll post in comments to this thread information about my whereabouts, if you’re interested, but I may not have time to go into details while here…

Looking downtown.

And now Hunter S. Thompson has committed suicide. Every time I leave the States an author I like kills himself... Last Spring it was Spaulding Grey.

Dreary Day

Yeah, that day was dreary and horrible outside. The past couple of days have been bright and sunny ("two days of rain then two weeks of sun," one cab driver reported) -- and it makes quite a difference in the way the town looks. But, yes, Tel Aviv is fairly run-down looking by American standards (with the exception of the tech zone where BMC is located -- that's extremely bright and colorful and full of little coffeeshops and neon lights).
