I can get up to 900 kbps when accessing my FTP hosted on my on campus desktop from my notebook. However it seems as if after 8 pm they throttle back speeds to about 100 kbps. This is from about 2 m away from the AP in the basement of WRW.

As of this post you are alloted 1 GB per week (only off campus traffic is metered).

UT free?Posted by Eddie at 5:46pm August 22, 2003 Flag This

the connections at UT, both wireless and standard ethernet require that you are an affiliate with UT (e.g. student, faculty, staff, etc). you have to login with your UT EID via a web browser once you've connected. and there are limitations as to how much bit transfer you can have per month (i think) - at least they count it.

I used it in Gregory Gym but it asked me for a password. Is it really free? I have not much experience with wi-fi so maybe the password was for some other thing and not wi-fi login???

I am a smart man. I go to UT. I am pissed at the idiot who works at the ITS. Wireless works in actuality at very few points on campus... idiot.

Cactus CafePosted by Anonymous Coward at 12:21am October 05, 2002 Flag This

I work for ITS at UT : the base station for the wireless access in the Union Building (the next room over from the Cactus Cafe) is right next to the Cafe, so it should work fine.

This is the list of ITS public access points on campus [you need a UT EID to log in]

Places it doesn't seem to work at UTPosted by Josh Knowles (www) at 02:37am September 07, 2002 Flag This

In my recent travels around campus, I have been unable to get the wireless connection to work at:

- the Dorothy Gebauer building (home of the College of Liberal Arts offices), and

- the Cactus Cafe (very unfortunate).
