Hey, Baby

To the right of the giraffes lived some of these antelopish creatures. We watched for a few minutes as the male unsuccessfully tried to woo the female into an after-lunch quicky.
My perception of zoos has changed as I've grown older. We had a good time looking at the animals, but I couldn't get it out of the back of my mind that this zoo had a large component of animals from the savannahs of Africa -- now living here, outside in the falling snow and 35°F weather. Maybe the African plains get cold, as well, but I just can't imagine that these critters are particularly comfortable here.
Hell, I was damned cold and I'm of northern European stock...
